“I had some time to really take advantage of the program and I was able to tailor it to my needs. I dove into MBA classes like finance and marketing but I also enjoyed the Management of Technology and technology electives like the 4G Wireless and New Drug Discovery. These classes gave much more than I could have gotten from a traditional MBA.”

Fuad was born in Jordan and educated in England. A master’s degree in controlled systems engineering from Imperial College, UK prepared him for industrial construction work at a global firm and later, as a regional manager for Samsung Electronics’ Middle East division. After a few years in this field, Fuad began to develop an interest in the consulting arena but felt he would need to supplement his technical education with broader business knowledge in order to be successful. When he found EMTM, he decided to give up his job at Samsung to come to the United States. Shortly after obtaining his EMTM degree, he found the consulting job he was looking for at Booz & Company.
Fuad actually considered a traditional MBA and was accepted into Cambridge University’s program but he ultimately chose EMTM for its tech orientation, rigorous curriculum and its diverse array of electives. “I was basically looking for a program that would help me make the transition to consulting and EMTM was flexible enough to do that.” Penn Engineering and Wharton were attractive brands and Fuad found a research position at Wharton that made leaving his job possible. Fuad found EMTM’s student network very attractive and he continues to stay active in alumni affairs.
Because of his unusual work situation, Fuad came to EMTM prepared to make the most of the offerings. He essentially “maxed out” on courses, diving into the curriculum and exploring as many subjects as possible. “I had some time to really take advantage of the program and I was able to tailor it to my needs. I dove into MBA classes like finance and marketing but I also enjoyed the Management of Technology and technology electives like the 4G Wireless and New Drug Discovery. These classes gave much more than I could have gotten from a traditional MBA.” Fuad came away with the quantitative skill to recently save a Fortune 500 automotive company millions of dollars in finance processes and functions and the organizational design savvy to help build an e-government platform for the nation of Qatar.
The EMTM experience continues to inform Fuad’s work as his career advances. Engaging with classmates in executive roles, attending presentations given by top-level business leaders and taking an active role in campus clubs and networking organizations gave Fuad a deeper understanding of American business culture as well as a strong network that now serves him well as a consultant. “There’s enough depth and breadth to this program to give you an edge in a wide range of career areas. EMTM is a wonderful program and if you know what you want and where you’re going, it can help you get there.”
