EMTM Profiles by Industry: Media/Entertainment
For the media and entertainment industry, the impact of the digital revolution has been significant every aspect of the
industry, from production through distribution and marketing, is going through change. As companies scramble to survive, EMTM
offers relevant innovation management expertise that bridges technology and business.
EMTM’s multidisciplinary approach builds the business savvy of professionals whose background is in technology, so that they
can not only support but help guide business strategy. At the same time, mid-career managers with a business background can gain the
technical understanding and fluency they need to lead teams and organizations whose success depends on smart decisions about rapidly
changing technologies.
When he entered the EMTM program, Michael Miktus, EMTM’07, now
Manager of Strategic Product Development, Dow Jones, Inc., had just been offered a job as a product manager in the
marketing department at Dow Jones. But he felt he needed a stronger technology background in order to work with the company’s
increasingly tech-oriented products. “I knew that having that knowledge would help me better manage the products. It would
teach me to think and organize my ideas differently.” In charge of a single North American product when he started the program,
Michael has since become responsible for managing multiple global products. “The program has not only helped me to make my
company stronger it’s given me the confidence to reach higher.”
In his current role, Ed Scott, EMTM’10, Senior Principal, Communications,
Media and Entertainment (CME) at Infosys Consulting, helps drive CME strategy as well as create, manage and deploy a range of
client-specific solutions. “As my career progressed, I witnessed firsthand the effect technology was having on my clients and
customers as well as their businesses. I realized that, coming from a strategic background, I needed a more effective baseline for
bridging the gap between technology and business and communicating with colleagues in either camp.”
Jonathan Williams, ETM’09, Director of Solutions Development at RR Donnelly in Chicago, entered EMTM four years after
he completed an MBA and commutes to the program from Chicago. “I have used a piece of every course I’ve taken to date at
work,” he says in the InSITE article,
Value of an EMTM Degree: Worth the Investment? “With EMTM,
it’s as if I have become multi-lingual in the many areas of expertise within our company. People take me more seriously when
I speak in their language, and my broader skill set has improved my credibility within the organization. The EMTM program has provided
me with knowledge, enhanced problem solving skills, and credibility, equipping me to become an effective change agent in my organization.”
