EMTM Profiles by Industry:
Consulting

EMTM’s combination of perspectives — our range of technology and management courses, exposure to students and executives from multiple industries, and focus on leading innovation — make the program especially valuable to consultants and consulting organizations. Nearly 20 percent of current EMTM students come from the consulting sector. With new knowledge and networks gained at EMTM, many graduates of the program have entered consulting positions or started their own consulting firms.

What do students and alumni say about the benefits of EMTM to their consulting experience?

Jalpa Anjaria, EMTM’09, President of SYNERGii Corporation, an information technology consulting firm, wanted to update her technology knowledge and become a better strategic partner to her clients. “Over the years I’ve made it a point to keep on top of current technology through certifications, but I was ready for a fulltime program. I liked that I could pursue all my interests instead of focusing solely on one area,” she says. “At EMTM, there’s a synergy between subjects that makes sense. You’re likely to see the same themes running through classes on decision models, marketing and biotechnology.”

Vladislav Vilensky, EMTM‘10, a Senior Manager of Business Consulting for Cognizant’s Healthcare division, commutes to the program from California. “EMTM is a gold mine of information and experience that’s absolutely worth my investment of time, money and energy,” he says in the InSITE article, “Value of an EMTM Degree: Worth the Investment?”. Even though he has worked as a consultant for 17 years, he says that he’s already deploying insights gained in EMTM for client development. “The tools and insights around prioritization and optimization of investment dollars that I learned in a Decision Models course got us in the door of a client we had been pursuing unsuccessfully for eight years,” he says. “The only difference is that this time I crafted the Request for Proposal response with the knowledge that I have from EMTM.”

For Jamie Gunsior, EMTM’06, Partner and Vice President at Diamond Management & Technology Consultants, EMTM enabled him to make the leap from systems integration to broader technology strategy consulting. Shortly after starting EMTM, Jamie joined the healthcare practice at Diamond Management & Technology Consultants (formerly DiamondCluster). A year after graduating, he was made partner and now consults with C-level executives at Fortune 100 healthcare firms. “The program, and the work I did with fellow students, had a lot to do with my job change and promotion. I now get pulled into discussions across various projects because I have a very broad perspective. The value of EMTM is not just a stats class or an organization behavior class — it’s about context, and how this knowledge is applied. For me, it’s been a full transformation.”

Liat Sverdlov, EMTM’07, Associate Consultant, McKinsey & Company, began her career as an advanced software engineer at Kulicke & Soffa, a supplier of semiconductor assembly equipment. But she aspired to a bigger role in a company where she could impact an entire business: That’s where EMTM came in. “I wanted to be more outfacing, working with people and looking at the bigger picture.” After completing the program, Liat joined McKinsey & Company as an associate in the Business Technology Office. She now works with a variety of firms across industries such as healthcare and financial services to tackle specific strategic issues involving technology.
