Why Attend EMTM When You Already Have a PhD?
EMTM has a very talented and increasingly “credentialed” student body. In the Fall of 2009’s incoming class, 13% of the students had already earned PhD or MD degrees. Many PhDs now working in industry have become increasingly aware that they are lacking important knowledge and insights about how their firms commercialize the underlying technologies in which they are experts. For these students, the EMTM program provides the perfect bridge from their subject areas to the marketplace.

Ricardo Macarron, PhD, EMTM’06 summarized his thought process this way:

“My professional progression had led me to a place where I needed additional training. EMTM was the perfect mix, where I could refresh my existing knowledge and learn new technical subjects while getting a better background in management and economics.” -
For Mark Pecen, PhD, EMTM’05,

“... given the relatively high risk associated with applied research, I wanted to get some tools to better handle uncertainty, learn some ways to identify where the markets were going, and discover how to make reasonable valuations on technology investments.” -
Serge-Alain Wandji, MS, PhD, EMTM’01 assessed his challenge this way:

“In order to take new technologies such as this one to the marketplace, I would need more than my advanced degrees in physiology and neurophysiology. I became very interested in technology commercialization, and knew I needed formal business training in order to take this project to the next phase.”
